Shabana Azmi Should Read The Quran!
Recently the remarks by Shabana Azmi about whether Islam tells the Muslim women to wear hijab or not has followed the “line of fire”! According to her hijab was necessity 1400 yrs ago when feudal wars were there and according to her hijab was made mandatory in Islam so that one tribe could not get to know that the women wearing the hijab is of which tribe and hence would not harm them! Well that was a very kid dish remark to make.
What is to be realized is that Islam is not a religion which caters to the problems of the Arabs or the Muslims only and that it was meant only for the old period, no!, Islam has been and will be a religion from eternity till eternity! It has very fantastically proven itself as a religion which can solve all the problems of the humans. Not even a single problem is there in this world which can’t be solved by applying the rules and regulations prescribe by Islam.
As for the hijab am sorry to say that Shabana Azmi is absolutely wrong in saying that it’s not necessary. It is definitely necessary and infact it is one of the most important things for a society to evolve without the exploitation of the women.
“And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what must ordinarily appear thereof; that they should draw their veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty except to their husbands, their fathers, their husbands' fathers, their sons, their husbands' sons, their brothers, or their brothers' sons or their sisters' sons, or their women or the servants whom their right hands possess, or male servants free of physical needs, or small children who have no sense of the shame of sex, and that they should not strike their feet in order to draw attention to their hidden ornaments. And O you Believers turn you all together towards Allah, that you may attain Bliss.” (Quran 24:31).
“O Prophet, tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks close round them (when they go abroad). That will be better, so that they may be recognized and not annoyed. Allah is ever Forgiving, Merciful.” (Quran 33:59)
And several other revelations in Quran are there! What does she has to say about these and the other revelation which are not mentioned here?
Further, targeting Islam without having enough knowledge about it is pathetic! I simply call it pathetic! Its sheer hatred towards the best religion of the world.
They say “Why does Islam discriminate between men and women by applying dress codes for women only”? Surely they don’t know anything!
Both men and women are commanded in the Quran to "lower their gaze and be modest." It is generally understood that men are not to expose the area of their body from the navel to the knee. However, many Muslim men would feel shy to expose a bare chest or bare legs in public. As with women, men are not to wear clothing that is tight or see-through. Indeed, in many Muslim societies the traditional clothing for men includes long, flowing robes, or long tunics that fully cover the body.
In a recent debate on ndtv about the remarks made by Shabana Azmi was anchored by Barkha Dutt.
She said that why should we cover ourselves? Why don’t we just cover the eyes of men!
'Can you imagine how wild people could go’?
My last request to every Muslim as well as non Muslim reading this post is that we should read Quran with translation and then hold a debate and preferably with Dr. Zakir Naik! Allah will surely clear all your doubts.
